Nice - Keith May 2004

Nice isn't winning - not this time.

Confidence is the killer coupled with 4 glasses of wine.

Oh that's enough. It's my fault, I taught him all my tricks.

Ego is missing all the time

Weak heart is showing signs of breaking

Always the same too shy to blame

anyone but me. Oh woe is me.

Fun in being a sinner, coming in at a quarter to 2

The humor is lost on your Mama - those things I taught you to do.

That's enough for you to get by

That's enough by an American mile

Ego is missing all the time

Weak heart is showing signs of breaking

Always the same too shy to blame

anyone but me. Oh woe is me.

I tried being sweet but I couldn't get by,

I tried being smooth but it wasn't my style,

Fun in being a sinner doing those things you shouldn't do.

As my brother-in-law once said, "Girls don't like nice guys.  Trust me."  This is sadly too true.  What is it about "nice guys" that makes them so uninteresting to the ladies?  My guess is a lack of confidence.  What if you told your shy, "nice guy" son everything you knew about the ladies and you ended up creating a Cassanova?  Would you be proud or slightly horrified with the enthusiasm with which he took to it?

This is a great jam and big fun to play out with the whole band.  After recording the drums, and bass, I could not get the live sound I was searching for.  The other instrument sounded fine but the guitar sounded weak and didn't provide the punch necessary for the song to sound like it does live.  After working on it for a few days I walked away from it and thought I would leave it off the disk.  And then my wife found out it wasn't going to make the disk and said that it absolutly had to be on there.  She was so adamant about it, I thought I'd revist it and see what I could do.  After a breif flirtation with the idea that the main instrument could be an electric piano, I went back to experimenting with different guitar sounds.  What is on the CD is three electric guitars carefully mixed together.  So if you enjoy the song, remember to thank Heather for insisting on its inclusion.
