Dancer- Keith May 2003

There you are now, doing your dance.

A nightly scene that only can lead to romance

In the gentlemen's eyes what do they see?

Not another song and dance, not another routine

When he's right you better be wrong.

You've got the tune, but never the song

that will be caught in memory.

Don't stay here its unhealthy

You can't stay its only old memories

There you are with a flower on your head

Dark black hair unravels to no end

Unobtainable is the look on your face

But to really pull them in you must lose any kind of trace

When the night fades and floats to the dawn

Here comes the beat here comes the love that

You need to fill from empty

Don't stay here its unhealthy

You can't stay its only old memories

The door shuts soon and I'll be gone. You ask, “Do I mind?”.

I have a gigantic painting in my studio area of a black-haired woman dancing with castanets.  She looks happy but kind of distant.  When I was writing this song I was looking at her and thinking about how part of her performance is pretending to enjoy herself.  Ever been to a "gentlemen's" club? It's hard not to see the desperation and sadness that is just beneath the surface.

Once I finally got a good take of this song, I hauled my recording gear down to Cincinnati to have Dana and Paul put some backgrounds vocals on it.   WOW..........  Perfection.  The backgrounds are goosebump inducing and just plain eerie.  I love it!
